Summer School and Research Conference
When Mathematics Meets Music.
Festum π Returns to the Aegean.
Chania, Crete | 14–27 July 2025.
For the fourth consecutive year, the largest mathematics school in France, Université Paris-Saclay, in collaboration with the Conservatoire de Paris, joins forces with 80 leading mathematicians and musicologists from France and Greece, on the island of Crete and specifically in Chania.
As part of Festum π, two international conferences—one in mathematics and one in musicology—will be held, with proceedings published by the academic publisher Springer. Participation is entirely free for distinguished Greek and French students.
At the same time, every evening features a classical music festival, which also includes lectures by leading researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence, and is open and free to the general public.
The festival is held under the auspices of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Research, with the support of the Academy of Athens and the valuable assistance of the Region of Crete.
More than a festival, Festum π is a celebration of Music and Mathematics – a tribute to Greek–French relations and a contemporary expression of the authentic identity of the Aegean islands, long home to scientific inquiry, from Oenopides of Chios, Pythagoras of Samos, and Geminos of Rhodes, to today’s largest gathering of mathematicians in its coves. See you in Chania to experience the magic of Festum π!
